MagSafe vs Clamp vs 1/4″ Screw: Phone Mount Interfaces Explained
Two selfie stick tripods can look identical on a catalog page and sell to completely different customers, because of one line in the specification: how the phone attaches. There are three attachment types in our range, plus a quick-release adapter for action cameras.
The clamp: a size range, not a model
A clamp holds the phone by its edges, so its specification is a width range rather than a feature. On the J02 neck phone mount and the J03 magnetic and clamp neck phone mount that range is stated as 60–93 mm, which covers current phones including large models in a case. The C20 selfie stick tripod also combines a clamp with a magnet.
What to check before quoting: the largest phone the buyer expects to serve. A clamp is the safest answer for mixed Android and iOS markets, because it does not depend on the phone model.
MagSafe and magnetic mounts: fastest to attach
Magnetic mounting needs either a MagSafe-compatible phone or a magnetic case. When the buyer's market is mostly recent iPhones, this is the fastest to use: the phone settles into position one handed, with no clamp to open.
Models that state magnetic compatibility:
- F08 — folded 115 mm, extended 463 mm; compatibility listed as iOS / Android / MagSafe.
- C20 — a 51-inch tripod listed as magnetic plus clamp, folded 227 mm, extended 1300 mm.
- J03 — a neck phone mount listed as magnetic plus clamp, with a 60–93 mm clamp.
The 1/4″ screw: it mounts accessories, not the phone
This is the part buyers most often misread. A 1/4″ screw is the standard thread used by most camera and accessory mounts. It lets the tripod carry something other than a phone — a small camera, an LED panel, a microphone arm — or accept an adapter head.
In the catalog the 1/4″ interface is stated on the F06 (auto open, folded 285 mm), the F16 (170 cm, folded 306 mm), the L16 (60-inch aluminium alloy, folded 336 mm) and the C20. If a buyer asks whether the stand can carry a camera, these four are the models to quote.
Quick-release adapters: for action cameras
Action cameras use a different fitting, so adapters matter more than threads. The J01 action camera neck mount states three parts in its specification: a 1/4″ interface, a quick-release adapter for Insta360, and a quick-release adapter for the DJI Osmo Action. That makes it the model for buyers serving either action camera ecosystem.
Which interface for which market
| Interface | What it holds | Stated on |
|---|---|---|
| Clamp (60–93 mm) | Any phone in range, including large models in a case | J02, J03, C20 |
| Magnetic / MagSafe | MagSafe phones, or phones in a magnetic case | F08, C20, J03 |
| 1/4″ screw | Camera and accessory mounts with the same thread | F06, F16, L16, C20, J01 |
| Quick release | Insta360 and DJI Osmo Action cameras | J01 |
Three questions to settle before you quote
- Is the end market iPhone-heavy or mixed? Magnetic for the first, clamp for the second.
- Will the buyer mount anything besides a phone? If yes, the 1/4″ interface has to be on the specification sheet.
- Does the buyer serve action camera users? Then quote the J01 and its two quick-release adapters rather than a phone-first model.
Sizes are on every model page
Each model page lists material, folded length, extended length, weight and compatibility, so the interface can be considered together with the size. Start from the full catalog, or read how to choose a selfie stick tripod first if the size decision is still open.
Questions
Does the F08 need a MagSafe case?
The F08 lists compatibility as iOS, Android and MagSafe. A MagSafe phone attaches directly; other phones need a MagSafe-compatible case or ring.
What phone sizes does the clamp fit?
The clamps are specified at 60-93 mm, which is stated on the J02 and J03 neck mounts. The C20 selfie stick tripod is specified as magnetic plus clamp.
Which models can hold a camera instead of a phone?
The F06, F16, L16, C20 and J01 all state a 1/4-inch screw interface, the standard thread used by most camera and accessory mounts.
